Thanks, Shin Choo Choo (Shin-Soo)
Lack of the proper 'X' angle. Sometimes, I call him Tetas now. |
Last summer, we got an email through our adoption agency informing us that Choo Choo (this is what we call him) and family were personally inviting us (and paying for our tickets) to sit in his designated corner on a game deemed 'Korean Heritage Night at the Ballpark.'
We were unable to attend and didn't think too much of it.
This year, we were invited back and signed up to go. I feel that as much money as we have spent on the Texas Rangers organization, and the number of games we've been to, I have the right to be a seat snob. Best seats in the house (other than lowest level first rows behind the plate or either dugout) are second level infield baselines (sections 219-233)...1st base best because of early shade. When I emailed back for tickets, I assumed because they were free, they were going to throw us up on the third level nose bleed.
We were very pleasantly surprised that we were lower level under the overhangs in the shade. I thought, wow. What a stand up guy. He remembered that Koreans stay out of the sun at all costs.
They started the game with a great Tae Kwon Do demonstration ending with a mass dance to Psy's Gangnam Style remix. Then the president of the Korean society for DFW gave a speech on the big screen, and Choo donated money. Lastly K-Pop star, Yangpa, sang both country's anthems.
We got to meet some other Korean adoptees, one a boy Alex's age.
It was a great night and we will try and go every year until Choo leaves and it ends.
Choo's still my hope that my boy will play MLB even though he currently shows zero aptitude for anything requiring prolonged physical effort. ("I'm tired of walking..." after making it into Target from the parking lot)
After all of his snacks were consumed and his attention began to wane, we unknowingly prepared ourselves for the movie Inside Out with a series of "feeling" selfies.
I share them now.
Happy. Unimpressed Korean adoptee teen forced to come to the game with her parents. Fast forward 12 years for us? |
