The Night Of

Nothing about this is a spoiler alert.

V and I have been watching the mini-series, The Night Of, on HBO. I'm not really into crime dramas because it makes me think of ways, I had never thought of, that people get abducted and/or abused and/or murdered. I don't like going to sleep with those thoughts in my brain. But I don't like many shows on TV, so The Night Of is one of maybe 2? shows V and I watch together.
It's only 8 episodes, but I am ready for it to be done. The characters are train wreck human beings.
My favorite part of the show has been John Turturro's character, John Stone. He plays a lawyer who hangs out near the precinct looking for potential clients. Sort of like ambulance chasing? He happens to be there when Naz Khan is brought in and charged with murder.
But my favorite parts are the side stories of Stone's life...his eczema...the cat he took from the victim, but is allergic to...the relationship with his son that I can't quite figure out...his relationship with a prostitute...

But the cat.

He's been keeping it in the spare bedroom of his apartment. He quickly slides toys and food into the room and the shuts the door and listens to see if the cat responds. It's been cracking me up. I really want the cat to play a larger role in the show's finale...like maybe it's the missing piece of the puzzle.

My bold prediction for the last episode is this: (Tune in this upcoming Sunday night to see if I'm right...)

Stone brings the cat to the courtroom. They have somehow subpoenaed the victim's stepdad. As the bright, but green Chandra is questioning him, the cat somehow gets out of the carrier. The cat turns from a sweet, affectionate cat to a beast of the jungle and charges the stepdad. As the stepdad is caught off guard and fighting the cat off, he says, "I should have killed you when I killed your mom!'

There will be a gasp from the courtroom and Weiss (the prosecutor) will cover her mouth in horror.
Chandra will say, "Oh my God."
Then Naz will say, "Oh my God."
Then the judge will say, "Oh my God."
And Stone will just sit there and smile and nod like that was the plan the whole time.

The bailiff will be instructed to take the stepdad into custody where he will be charged with the murder of his stepdaughter and Khan will be released...the case is dismissed.

Everyone will celebrate.
Chandra will be interviewed by the press and asked how she knew Khan was innocent. She will give credit to Stone who was seldom respected as a lawyer before then. He will say he knew it all along and ask people to wonder why he kept an animal he was allergic to for so long.

Khan will run up to Chandra and they will start making out and he will whisper in her ear all the crimes he committed in jail.
She will say, "Baby, I know you had to..."

...

The End.

Wait.

This sounds strangely familiar.
