Snapshot: Starting bad habits

In his previous life before us, Alex slept on a mat on the floor with his foster mom in Korea. Since I had time to read a plethora of books before we went to get him, I decided that we were not going to start any habits that would need to be changed later. As a result Alex slept in his own bed, in his own room from the very beginning.

I had grand plans to do the same for baby Z. Since I'm not breastfeeding, I was going to have him sleep in his crib from day one.

But...

Then we brought him home and I realized that he was going to be upstairs and I was going to have to walk upstairs multiple times a night. I consider myself in shape, but nothing winds me faster than walking up one flight of stairs when I'm tired. (or always, actually)

The next plan was to have him sleep in the Pack'N Play in our room.
Baby Z nixed that plan pretty fast as he would not sleep in there...
We had a baby box...he nixed that too.

It turns out he wanted to only sleep in the Rock thing that you are not supposed to let them sleep in for long periods of time.

(Are you starting to picture all the baby crap that is strewn around our house?)

Presently, he finally sleeps in his baby box.
I always put him in bed with V after I wake up to brush my teeth and...well, brush my teeth. That is sometimes, literally, the only thing that gets done until I shower at night for myself.
A few weeks into our time together, baby Z would start to make little grunting noises in the morning. It would be around 6 AM when I could wake up for the day, but really wanted 30 more minutes of sleep (or more). So I would put him in bed between us and he began to go back to sleep for at least 30 minutes, most of the time more...time for me to doze more, brush my teeth AND put in my contacts.

Now, he wakes up every morning with little noises to be put in the big bed to doze until daylight's first bottle.

Starting a lifetime of great habits.
